Internet Access
The Research Centre has a number of Personal Computers that can be used for Internet access. The Society has subscriptions to Ancestry, FindMyPast, and The Genealogist.
The Census for 1921 is available from FindMyPast but only for the Index. To see the images you will need to create your own account and pay for them.
Family Trees & Family Histories
The Society has over 2,400 family trees/histories that have been donated by Members and are available in the library at our Research Centre. We are now able to supply digital scans of these to members.
For further information see: here.
Monumental Inscriptions
The Society has a large collection of Monumental Inscriptions transcripts. These are kept in the library at our Research Centre and copies of the majority of them can be purchased through our on-line shop. A full list of our holdings is available on-line and can be downloaded here. The list includes (in grey) holdings at the local record offices.
The Society has an ongoing project to digitise all of the above transcripts. These are then made available on the databases at our Research Centre, and later copied to FindMyPast. Copies can be bought on-line but only through FindMyPast. A summary of the work completed is available on-line and can be downloaded here:
Monumental Inscriptions project images
The Society is taking part in a national project to record every gravestone in the United Kingdom and local volunteers are photographing graveyards and cemeteries in Northumberland and Durham. These images and transcriptions are available on our computers at our Research Centre. The transcriptions are not yet available online but we are able to provide copies of the images. A list of the names included in the images is available on-line and can be downloaded here:

Unwanted Certificates donated to the Society
Birth, Marriage, and Death Certificates have been donated to the NDFHS by members because the certificates proved to be unrelated to their research. These certificates are housed in the library at our Research Centre and are available to visitors to the library.
Please note – we are no longer able to accept any more Unwanted Certificates.
We are now able to provide scanned images of the certificates we have. Copies may be purchased through our on-line shop.
