The story of the partnership established in 1820 to develop a coal mine below the magnesian limestone escarpment in the east of County Durham and link it to the River Wear by George Stephenson’s first steam hauled railway (three years before the Stockton & Darlington Railway). I will be looking at the family and business links between the various Hetton Coal Company partners in the period 1820-1836.
