General Research Request
RESEARCH TO BE DONE
We will carry out an open ended search. You need to provide the search parameters for us, and we will then give you an estimate for the work to be done.
Once this has been agreed we will carry out the search and report back to you.
The search results will be converted to a digital file and emailed to you; this will usually be a .pdf (Portable Document Format), or a scanned image (.tiff).
In the case of an unsuccessful search the search fee will not be returned.
Notes:
- We shall not restrict ourselves to the databases and records we have at our Research Centre so the request could be for any location.
- You need to email us at Sales@ndfhs.org.uk providing all the necessary details as an attachment. The details should include
(a) what you are looking for (b) what you have found so far (c) any other relevant information. - Searches will not be restricted to Northumberland and Durham; and we may examine any of the national databases that we have access to.
- We can undertake “blanket” searches of un-indexed material although this may have to be on an hourly basis.
Example request: I am looking for the Birth/Baptism of my ancestor William DIXON born about 1739 place unknown.
He married with Isabella TAYLOR on 2nd June 1767 at Christ Church, Tynemouth, Northumberland;
they had one child at Tynemouth: Thomas baptised on 28th June 1770 the entry adding “Pearson’s Row, Mariner”;
they moved to Monkwearmouth, County Durham, where they had four children including Nicholas (1780) and Carnaby (1785);
William died at Oxclose and was buried on 19th December 1810 at Holy Trinity, Washington, County Durham, described as Mariner aged 71 years.
Note: this is the direct ancestor of one of our volunteers. His search identified about eleven possibles in Northumberland and Durham.
